Mitsubishi is proudly trumpeting that its Q1 sales were up 56 per cent on 2012, a figure which doesn’t take account of the all-new Outlander SUV and Mirage city car. It’s good news for dealers but they’ve come from a low place. SMMT figures reveal the total was still only 858 for the quarter.

Drives - Renault Zoe

Published on 02 Jun 2013

So finally we have the Zoe, the fourth model in Renault’s four-pillared plan to be the dominant force in electric vehicles. And finally we have EV that you would actually want to own – characterful supermini styling, good to drive, packed with desirable features, decent usable range, affordable price and free of compromise. It’s also got a sense of fun; the flush rear door handles carry the actual thumbprint of the designer, to tell you where to push to use them. Cards on the table, it’s the best EV by far.

Regular readers of these pages will know that I’m prone to rant about car interiors, specifically that in many cases they’re not as well-designed as the exterior. Given the customer is paying thousands for the vehicle, and given the cabin is what they have to look at almost all the time, some of the styling is criminal.

Commercial vehicles - European Commission Proposes More Aerodynamic Trucks

Published on 02 Jun 2012

The European Commission is proposing to relax some rules regarding the length of truck/trailer combinations to permit the design of more aerodynamic trucks. The additional permitted length would be used to produce a more aerodynamic front for trucks in place of the flat fronted current cabs, which are designed to be as short as possible to maximise the available space in the trailer. At the same time, the rules would allow the fitting of flaps at the rear of the trailer to improve air flow at the rear. The Commission suggests that such changes could result in savings of around £4,300 (€5,000) in fuel for a truck covering 100,000km per year. Reduced fuel consumption would also result in a cut in CO2 emissions.
